Fresh landings of whitefish and saithe continue at ports across the Faroe Islands this week, with a steady stream of trawlers, pair-trawlers, longliners and small boats arriving with mixed catches. The market remains active, with the bulk of volumes comprising saithe and cod.

Strong pair-trawl landings

The pair-trawlers Hamranes and Breiðanes landed 325,000 pounds in Hvalba at the start of the week, most of it saithe. On the same day, Stjørnan and Polarhav landed 375,000 pounds at Kósin, mainly consisting of saithe, along with approximately 15,000 pounds of whitefish sold through the auction market.

Longliners bring steady cod

The longliner Núpur landed 80,000 pounds in Kósavirkið, with most of the fish being cod and haddock from grounds west of the islands. Thor delivered 30,000 pounds to Barðið, mostly cod and tusk, while Anru brought in 22,000 pounds to Havn from eastern grounds.

Small-boat landings remain stable, with multiple local boats landing between 25,000 and 30,000 pounds on several days this week.

Large saithe trips continue

The pair-trawlers Heykur and Falkur landed 470,000 pounds in Runavík, almost all saithe from eastern grounds. Jaspis and Ametyst followed with 230,000 pounds of saithe to Kósavirkið. Meanwhile, Fuglberg and Skoraberg are landing a combined 205,000 pounds, also dominated by saithe.

Freezer longliners have added further volume. Pison landed 107 tons to NFCS, while Klakkur landed 124 tons. Both operated around the Faroe Islands.

Overall, the week has shown vigorous saithe activity, steady cod catches from longliners, and continued high turnover at the main Faroese ports.
