Fishing vessels across the Faroe Islands brought in large catches last week. Several ports experienced busy days as both trawlers and pair trawlers landed substantial loads of cod, haddock, and saithe.

Pair trawlers deliver massive hauls

The pair trawlers Polarhav and Stjørnan landed 450,000 pounds of saithe in Klaksvík for Kósavirkið. They had fished east of the islands and are already heading out again.

Earlier in the week, Stelkur and Bakur landed 370,000 pounds in Runavík for Faroe Origin. In comparison, Jaspis and Ametyst delivered 250,000 pounds in Klaksvík.

Heykur and Fallkur also returned to Runavík with an impressive 510,000 pounds. Safir and Smaragd landed 220,000 pounds at the Kósavirkið plant.

Smaller trawlers are also active

The trawler Búgvin made two landings in Klaksvík. On 8 September, it landed nearly 60,000 pounds, and four days later, another 24,000 pounds, mostly cod and haddock.

Skálafossur brought in 60,000 pounds to Miðvágur, also with cod and haddock as the main catch. Sigatindur landed 60,000 pounds in Leirvík, while Jens Leon landed 10,000 pounds.

The gillnetters Thor and Túgvusteinur landed in Tórshavn, with 36,000 pounds and 23,000 pounds respectively. Their catches were dominated by cod and ling, caught on the Ryggurin grounds.
