Faroe Islands whitefish landings rose in the first days of 2026, with vigorous activity at the fish market and several large landings by trawlers and coastal boats.

Multiple vessels reported good catches, especially of monkfish, saithe and haddock, according to official landing notes.

Strong start at the fish market

Sales began on 6 January with 60,000 pounds offered by nine small boats. The next day, frozen vessels that arrived in December were offered at auction, totalling 495 tonnes.

On the same morning, 25 coastal boats sold 125,000 pounds after good fishing. Activity remained high through mid-January, with more than 20 coastal boats selling on 14 January.

Trawlers land large volumes

Several trawlers landed monkfish from the Skeiva Bank. Jens Leon landed 16,000 pounds in Miðvágur on 9 January. Búgvin followed with 35,000 pounds the same day and returned to the fishing ground.

On 12 January, Fiskaklettur landed close to 50,000 pounds in Klaksvík, while Sigatindur landed 40,000 pounds in Leirvík. Skálafossur landed 35,000 pounds on 14 January, including 26,000 pounds of monkfish.

Coastal fleet reports good fishing

Coastal boats also reported solid results. Norsøki landed 20,000 pounds over the weekend of 11–12 January. Núpur landed about 100,000 pounds at Kósin.

Hamranes and Breiðanes landed around 180,000 pounds in Hvalba, mainly saithe, plus 20,000 pounds of whitefish. Volunteer landed 40,000 pounds at Toftir, including 27,000 pounds of haddock.
