Pelagic vessels landed more than 8,800 tonnes of fish in the Faroe Islands between Monday, 12 January and Sunday, 18 January, driven by strong mackerel catches in waters west of Shetland and steady blue whiting landings closer to home.
Most landings went to Pelagos in Fuglafjørður and Varðan Pelagic in Tvøroyri. Several vessels also split deliveries between ports.
Strong mackerel flow from Shetland waters
Mackerel dominated the week. Large deliveries included 1,100 tonnes landed by Høgaberg, 850 tonnes by Gøtunes, and 800 tonnes by Arctic Voyager. Christian í Grótinum made multiple calls, landing 650 tonnes and later 510 tonnes at Pelagos in Fuglafjørður.
Other mackerel landings included 650 tonnes by Tummas T., 500 tonnes by Tróndur í Gøtu, 450 tonnes by Katrin Jóhanna, 330 tonnes by Norðingur, and 160 tonnes by Ango. Ango completed its full mackerel quota during the week.
Blue whiting boosts volume
Blue whiting added weight to total landings. Vestmenningur delivered 1,800 tonnes to Havsbrún after fishing in Faroese waters south of the islands.
Most catches were delivered to Pelagos in Fuglafjørður and Varðan Pelagic in Tvøroyri. Some mackerel was also landed in Kollafjørður, with split deliveries standard.
