Landings in the Faroe Islands have surged past 500 tonnes over the past seven days, with large trips of saithe, cod and haddock leading the tally.

Major saithe landings

The biggest hauls came from pair trawlers. Polarhav and Stjørnan landed 215 tonnes of saithe at Kósin after a trip east of the islands.

Earlier, Stelkur and Bakur delivered 159 tonnes to Faroe Origin in Runavík, also after a week of fishing east. Safir and Smaragd landed 64 tonnes of saithe at Kósin.

Mixed catches from smaller vessels

Smaller longliners and trawlers added steady landings of cod, haddock and black halibut. The longliner Volunteer landed 12 tonnes at Toftir, with 8 tonnes of haddock.

Núpur delivered 34 tonnes to Kósin, mostly cod and haddock from the west.

Steady market supply

Coastal boats kept the domestic market supplied with smaller lots. Jens Leon landed twice in Leirvík with a total of 11 tonnes.

Túgvusteinur brought in 10 tonnes, including 7 tonnes of black halibut. Oknin landed 11 tonnes at Toftir, also dominated by black halibut.

Even the research vessel Jákup Sverri featured in the week’s landings, delivering nearly 3 tonnes from trial trawls to Barðið in Tórshavn.
