Pelagic vessels landed large volumes of blue whiting and herring in the Faroe Islands during week 20, with several Faroese trawlers delivering catches to factories in Fuglafjørður, Tvøroyri and Ánirnar.
The biggest single landing came from Christian í Grótinum, which arrived in Ánirnar with 2,700 tonnes of blue whiting caught west of the Faroe Islands in Faroese waters. The catch is due to be processed by Havsbrún.
Another large blue whiting landing came from Fagraberg, which delivered 2,700 tonnes to Havsbrún in Fuglafjørður after fishing in Faroese waters.
Strong blue whiting activity
Blue whiting fishing remained strong throughout the week. Jupiter landed 1,400 tonnes of blue whiting in Fuglafjørður after fishing in Faroese waters.
Factories also handled several herring deliveries. Norðingur arrived in Fuglafjørður with 650 tonnes of herring for Pelagos after fishing in Faroese waters. Earlier in the week, the same vessel landed 800 tonnes and another 760 tonnes of autumn-spawning herring.
Borgarin delivered 970 tonnes of herring to Pelagos after fishing east of the Faroe Islands.
Varðan Pelagic receives multiple herring cargoes
On Tvøroyri, Varðan Pelagic received several herring cargoes during the week. Finnur Fríði landed 700 tonnes after fishing east of Fugloy.
Tróndur í Gøtu landed 450 tonnes of herring. In comparison, Gøtunes delivered both 900 tonnes in Fuglafjørður and 200 tonnes in Tvøroyri during the week.
Tummas T. also landed 560 tonnes of greater silver smelt at Tvøroyri after fishing west of the Faroe Islands.
Faroese pelagic factories remain busy
The steady flow of landings kept the Faroese pelagic industry active across several processing sites. Pelagos, Havsbrún and Varðan Pelagic all received catches during the week as vessels continued fishing mainly in Faroese waters.
Several vessels returned to sea shortly after unloading, underlining continued fishing activity in the North Atlantic pelagic fisheries.
