The Icelandic longliners Páll Jónsson GK and Sighvatur GK, operated by Vísir, have reported solid catches after recent trips in the eastern and south-eastern fishing grounds.

Good results from Hornafjörður Deep

Skipper Jónas Ingi Sigurðsson of Páll Jónsson said their total catch reached just under 100 tonnes. “We stayed in Hornafjörður Deep the entire time. It was freezing cold at first, but later the weather turned fine. Half of the catch was cod, the rest mainly ling and haddock — all good-quality fish,” he said.

The vessel landed its catch at Djúpivogur earlier this week.

Strong trip for Sighvatur GK

Sighvatur GK returned to its home port of Grindavík yesterday morning with 105 tonnes. According to skipper Óli Björn Björgvinsson, fishing in Norðfjarðardýpi yielded “excellent quality cod.”

He added, “We shot four and a half lines. Apart from the first day’s chill, the weather was fair. When we finished, we faced a 36–37-hour steam home — about 310 nautical miles.”

Back to sea again soon

Both longliners resumed fishing soon after landing, continuing Vísir’s active autumn season. The stable catches underline favourable fishing conditions in the eastern grounds this October.
