On Monday, 18 August, the brand-new vessel Øksnesværing arrived in Denmark. A tugboat had towed the hull all the way from Poland to Vestværftet in Hvide Sande, where the rest of the ship will be completed.

The shipyard is building the fishing vessel for the Norwegian company Øksnes Kystfiske AS, based in Myre. The new boat will now be fitted out alongside two other Norwegian newbuilds already in port – Elias Johan and Bernt Oscar.

A Modern Fishing Vessel

Øksnesværing will be 45.5 meters long and 12 meters wide when finished. The plan is to hand over the ship to the owners before the end of this year.

The vessel is designed for both purse seining and Danish seining (snurrevad). It has a cargo hold of 499 cubic meters. This can be used for live fish, bulk, boxes, or refrigerated seawater (RSW).

One Year Behind Schedule

The building process has not gone exactly as planned. The company’s replacement license had to be extended twice, most recently on August 28, 2024. That means the vessel is already more than a year delayed.

Advanced Cooling and Gentle Fish Handling

The newbuild will be equipped with a 750 kW RSW system (Refrigerated Sea Water). In addition, it will have four live fish pumps. Together, these systems will ensure fast cooling of seawater and gentle handling of the catch.

This technology is key for both quality and sustainability, making Øksnesværing a modern addition to the Norwegian fleet.
