Hampiðjan signs a significant deal in Australia, acquiring International Rope Braid (IRB) on the Gold Coast. IRB, founded in 2005 by Dave and Suzy Allan, makes braided ropes and twine for industries from aquaculture to mining.

Its 16-person team runs a steady €1.7 million annual turnover and delivers specialist rope coverbraiding that meets Australia’s tight delivery needs.

The move strengthens Hampiðjan’s presence in Australia and New Zealand. IRB sits just 30 minutes from Hampiðjan, Australia’s headquarters, and the two already share a close working relationship.

Hampiðjan supplies high-performance ropes from its Lithuanian plant, while IRB provides braided products for mining and other sectors.

By keeping rope production local, Hampiðjan avoids costly and slow airfreight from Europe. The plan is for IRB and Hampiðjan Australia to operate as sister companies, creating synergies in raw material sourcing, pricing, and product reach.

Dave and Suzy Allan express trust in Hampiðjan’s leadership, praising the team’s skill and dedication. Hampiðjan Australia’s director, Thorsteinn Benediktsson, highlights IRB’s role in urgent supply situations.

CEO Hjörtur Erlendsson calls the deal a key step in boosting service speed and market reach, with both teams ready to braid new opportunities together.
