When DanFish International returns to Aalborg Congress & Culture Centre (AKKC) on October 7–9, 2025, sustainability will be in focus like never before.
The fair, one of the world’s leading trade shows for the commercial fishing and maritime industry, will bring together up to 15,000 participants from around 50 countries.
Free rides to reduce emissions
This year, visitors and exhibitors can travel free of charge by bus and train throughout Northern Jutland. The offer comes from a partnership between AKKC and Nordjyllands Trafikselskab.
“We want to take responsibility for the total CO₂ footprint of a large international fair,” says Lars Rønnov, Commercial Director at AKKC. “Free public transport gives people a real chance to choose greener travel.”
For those who cannot take public transport, carpooling is encouraged — both to ease the parking situation and to spare the environment.
Less diesel, more electricity
The venue itself is also becoming greener. Much of DanFish takes place in AKKC’s mobile exhibition hall, which in earlier years was heated only with diesel.
This year, 90 per cent of the energy will come from electricity, with just 10 per cent diesel. This change alone cuts the event’s CO₂ emissions significantly.
Recycling and waste sorting
Behind the scenes, waste will be sorted into at least 25 different categories. At the same time, exhibitors and visitors are asked to reduce waste at their own stands.
Even the carpets used during the fair will get a second life, as locals are invited to collect them for use in workshops, garages, or creative projects.
A boost for Aalborg
Beyond the green agenda, DanFish also delivers a significant economic benefit. The influx of international visitors is expected to generate at least DKK 39 million in hotel stays, dining, and other spending in Aalborg.
“For us, sustainability is not only about the climate but also about social and economic responsibility. DanFish drives the green transition in the industry while giving back to the local community,” says Rønnov.“
