Karsten Mølgaard is the new chair of the Danish Pelagic Producers Organisation (DPPO). He succeeds Jens Schneider Rasmussen, who has led the organisation for several years.

Mølgaard is skipper of the pelagic vessel Isafold HG 333, which he operates together with Lise Bjørn Jørgensen. His term runs until summer 2026.

The leadership shift comes at a time when DPPO is preparing to develop its internal structure and define a renewed chair profile for the years ahead.

A skipper taking the helm

Mølgaard brings hands-on experience from life at sea. He has been active in the pelagic fleet for many years and is well-known across the Danish fishing sector.

He says he looks forward to working with both the board and the DPPO secretariat during what he describes as “an exciting time for Danish pelagic fisheries”. He also thanked Schneider Rasmussen for his efforts and dedication to the industry.

Focus on sustainability and technology

DPPO’s director, Esben Sverdrup-Jensen, highlights Mølgaard’s mix of practical knowledge and strategic outlook. He points to future challenges linked to sustainability, education and new technology — areas where Mølgaard is expected to play a key role.

Thanks to the outgoing chair

The organisation notes that Jens Schneider Rasmussen has been a steady figure during a period marked by changing quota conditions and growing political attention on pelagic fishing.

His contribution is described as both valuable and long-lasting.
