White fish landings in the Faroe Islands remained high in the week from 12 to 18 January 2026. Many coastal boats landed catches, and several trawlers and pair trawlers delivered large volumes. Fishing conditions were mostly good, though the weather was set to worsen later in the week.
Strong coastal fishery
Coastal boats reported good fishing. Many landed over the weekend, and activity stayed high through the week. On 14 January, 21 coastal boats sold catches at the fish market.
By 16 January, around 30 coastal boats were offering fish, with about 180,000 pounds listed for sale. The main species included haddock, saithe, and some black halibut.
Large landings from trawlers
Several trawlers landed sizeable catches. Pair trawlers Stelkur and Bakur delivered about 360,000 pounds of saithe in Runavík.
Trawlers Hamranes and Breiðanes landed around 180,000 pounds in Hvalba, also including saithe and some white fish. Trawlers working in the Skeiva Banka landed notable volumes of monkfish during the week.
Outlook for the coming days
Line vessels were fishing north of the islands, mainly for cod and haddock, with landings expected later in the week. Deep-sea trawlers on the Iceland Ridge continued to target cod, with some black halibut and blue ling. Weather conditions were fair early in the week but forecast to turn rougher, which could limit activity.
