Fishing activity slowed in week 13 of 2026, with Norway’s blue whiting catches reaching 178,677 tonnes of the national quota, according to Sildelaget data.

The total Norwegian quota for blue whiting stands at 238,736 tonnes this year.

Limited activity in pelagic fisheries

Only a few vessels reported catches during the week. Early in the week, the vessel Kaspar landed 15 tonnes of horse mackerel, averaging 480 grams, caught off Rogaland. The catch was delivered to Skude Fryseri.

Shortly after, Rav reported a larger catch of 1,130 tonnes of blue whiting taken in EU waters. The fish was delivered to Pelagia Karmsund Fiskemel on Karmøy.

Later in the week, Kavholm landed a smaller catch of 3 tonnes of horse mackerel from Rogaland, which was delivered to Skude Fryseri.

Horse mackerel fishery remains small-scale

So far in 2026, small coastal vessels have landed 734 tonnes of horse mackerel.

Norway’s total quota for horse mackerel is 31,912 tonnes this year.

The low level of activity reflects a seasonal slowdown ahead of Easter, with only limited reporting from the fleet during the week.

Fishing is expected to remain quiet in the short term as the holiday period approaches.
