A new pelagic fishing vessel, Fagraberg, has arrived in its home port of Fuglafjørður, the Faroe Islands and will begin fishing after Easter, following preparations for its first season with Faroese owner Framherji.
The vessel, formerly known as Serene and under Shetland ownership, arrived at the port early last week and was welcomed by a large crowd despite poor weather. A formal reception was held, featuring speeches from local officials and representatives of the company Framhjerji.

Modern vessel in near-new condition
Fagraberg was built in 2018 but is described as being in near-new condition. The vessel has only been used for limited periods each year, mainly in fisheries around the Shetland Islands, where operational patterns tend to result in less wear.
The ship is 82 metres long and 17.3 metres wide. It is powered by a 9,000-horsepower MAN engine and has a carrying capacity of around 3,000 tonnes.
Set for North Atlantic pelagic fisheries
The vessel will operate in the North Atlantic pelagic fisheries. It will target blue whiting from December to June, mackerel from August to September, and herring from September to November.
Preparations are now underway ahead of the vessel heading out after Easter.
Strong local and industry value
The arrival drew strong local interest. Guests were invited onboard to view the vessel, and the event included music and speeches marking the addition to the Faroese fleet.
For the owner, the acquisition is seen as a valuable addition. The vessel is modern, well-maintained, and suited for pelagic operations in the region.
