The new Norwegian pelagic vessel “Rogne” landed 2,700 tonnes of blue whiting within a few days of its first trip in Faroese waters.

The catch comes as blue whiting fishing remains strong in the Faroese zone. Last week alone, Norwegian and Swedish vessels reported 29,765 tonnes.

Fast start in the Faroese zone

“Rogne” was delivered shortly before Easter and headed to sea as soon as the holiday ended. Within a couple of days, the vessel had filled its tanks with 2,700 tonnes.

The vessel is now returning to port to land the catch. The trip is seen as a strong first test of both vessel and gear.

At the same time, fishing activity in the area is expected to slow. Most vessels are close to completing their quotas.

Built for pelagic efficiency

Rogne is a newbuild from Karstensens Skibsværft. It is designed for combined pelagic trawl and purse seine fishing.

Blue whiting fishing west of Ireland is a key part of operations. Herring and mackerel are mainly caught with seine gear.

The vessel includes 13 RSW tanks and systems designed for efficient operations and lower fuel consumption.

Strong blue whiting season

The wider fishery remains active. Only 23,678 tonnes remain of Norway’s 2026 blue whiting quota of 230,712 tonnes.

Four Norwegian vessels were still fishing at the start of the week. Activity is expected to decline as quotas are taken.
