Oman-based fishing company Rawanq has added Viking 1 to its fleet, naming the vessel its new flagship as it sails to its home port in Duqm, Oman.
The company said the ship is due to arrive on January 17 after completing renovations and an extended delivery voyage from Iceland.
The vessel left the shipbuilder’s port on December 24 and is now en route to Oman. Further work will continue while the ship is underway, Rawanq said.
Built for pelagic fishing
Viking 1 was built in 2001 at the Asmar Shipyard in Valparaíso, Chile. It is 76.2 metres long and has a gross tonnage of 3,003.
The vessel is designed for purse seining and pelagic trawling. It includes complete onboard processing and large refrigeration capacity for raw and frozen fish.
Before the sale, the ship spent almost 22 years fishing for a family-owned operation in Grenivík, Iceland, where it earned a reputation as a reliable and productive vessel.

Major refit in Iceland
After the purchase in late 2025, Viking 1 was sailed to Akureyri for a 24-hour voyage to begin a major refit by Slippurinn DNV.
The work included upgrades to the processing factory, more capacity, new crew quarters and updated equipment to meet current standards.
Rawanq said the size and processing power of Viking 1 fit its plan to supply high-quality seafood to global markets. The company called the acquisition a key milestone as it expands its fleet.
