Norwegian fishing company Nordan AS has applied to buy the combined trawler and former Danish seine vessel Rebekka L, marking a significant fleet investment by the Lindesnes-based company.

Fiskerimagasinet reports that the vessel is priced at NOK 60 million (approximately EUR 5.2 million), according to the application submitted to the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries.

The deal involves NOK 5 million in equity, with the remaining NOK 55 million financed through bank loans. If approved, the purchase will add a second modern trawler to Nordan’s operations.

Buying a near-new vessel

Rebekka L was built with a hull from Nauta Hull Shipyard in Poland and completed at Vestværftet in Hvide Sande. The vessel was delivered in 2020 to a Danish owner and sold in 2022 to Ringbas AS in western Norway.

Nordan plans to operate the vessel under Norway’s limited North Sea trawl scheme. This allows fishing patterns similar to those of the company’s existing 33-metre trawler, Nordan.

Strong results drive expansion

The trawler Nordan has delivered strong catches in 2025. By 16 December, the vessel had landed 1,080 tonnes of fish, including haddock, saithe, ling, monkfish, hake, cod and Norway lobster.

Industry peers in southern Norway have taken note of the results. The company now aims to repeat that success with a second, slightly smaller vessel.

From loss to new owner

The original Danish owner shut down operations after two years, citing weak profits and high fuel costs. The vessel was later sold as several Danish trawlers exited the fishery amid low quotas, high diesel prices and rising interest rates.

Nordan believes Norway’s quota rules offer more flexibility, improving the chances of profitable operations with Rebekka L.
