Large volumes of blue whiting were landed in the Faroe Islands between 13 and 19 April, with several vessels reporting catches above 1,000 tonnes. Activity was high across key ports, including Fuglafjørður, Tvøroyri and Kollafjørður.
Heavy landings across multiple ports
The largest single catch came from Christian í Grótinum, which landed around 3,000 tonnes. Fagraberg followed with 2,300 tonnes, while Vestmenningur and Borgarin reported 2,200 and 1,700 tonnes respectively.
Other vessels also delivered strong volumes. Finnur Fríði landed up to 1,700 tonnes on one trip and 1,540 tonnes on another. Norðingur landed between 1,000 and 1,100 tonnes across two arrivals.
Foreign vessels add to the supply
International vessels contributed to the total landings. The Greenlandic vessel Polar Ammassuk and the Norwegian vessel Nordsjøbras each delivered 1,500 tonnes to processing plants in Fuglafjørður.
Several Faroese vessels also made repeated trips. Birita landed both 1,900 tonnes and later returned with 1,400 tonnes. Tróndur í Gøtu delivered more than 1,300 tonnes and had earlier landed 1,430 tonnes.
Strong fishing conditions in Faroese waters
Most catches were taken south of the Faroe Islands in Faroese waters. Reports describe good fishing conditions, with some vessels completing trips quickly. One vessel landed 1,300 tonnes after just over a day at sea.
Processing plants, including Havsbrún, Pelagos and Varðin Pelagic, handled the landings. A large share of the blue whiting was directed to human consumption.
