The Faroese fleet has had a strong week at sea, landing hundreds of tonnes of whitefish and other species across the islands’ ports.

Pair of trawlers Heykur and Falkur made one of the largest landings of the week with 480,000 pounds of saithe at Faroe Origin in Runavík after fishing east of the islands. Another pair, Jaspis and Ametyst, also returned from the east with full holds, landing 255,000 pounds at Kósin.

Strong landings in Klaksvík and beyond

Fuglberg and Skoraberg brought 170 tonnes of golden redfish to Klaksvík, sold to processor Tavan in Leirvík. In the same harbour, the trawler Búgvin landed 24,000 pounds of haddock and cod for NFCS. Other trawlers, including Jens Leon and Skálafossur, reported promising results north of Mykines, with landings in Leirvík and Miðvági.

Several gillnetters also made landings. Thor delivered 26,000 pounds in Tórshavn, with cod and black halibut making up the catch. Jákup Sverri, conducting research trials on the Faroe Bank, landed 42,000 pounds, including 34,000 pounds of haddock.

Shrimp from the Barents Sea

Outside Faroese waters, the trawler Enniberg landed 543 tonnes of shrimp in Kåravik, Norway, after a trip in the Barents Sea with 19 crew under skipper Mortan Hansen.

From Toftir to Klaksvík and Runavík, landings were steady. Vessels like Oknin, Volunteer, Túgvusteinur, and Sigatindur all added to the tally with mixed catches of cod, haddock, and black halibut. The pattern shows a busy and profitable week for the Faroese fleet, with saithe dominating the landings but several species contributing to the overall results.
